Welcome
Sexual harassment conflicts are disruptive and divisive. They set colleagues against each other, and can leave some people scarred for
life.
Most sexual harassment is abuse of power, and not inspired by genuine romance. The
surest way to eliminate sexual harassment is through an atmosphere of mutual respect. The best way to achieve this is to clearly and forcefully prohibit sexual
harassment, and to provide resources to enable everyone to understand
their roles and responsibilities in Preventing Sexual Harassment.
Training is important. People often misunderstand each other in the best of
circumstances. Learning more about how others interpret behavior will help everyone.
This program is dedicated to that purpose.
Objectives of Preventing Sexual Harassment
At the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- identify behavior that might be considered sexual harassment,
- explain the legal and other consequences of sexual harassment,
- describe their role and responsibility in creating an environment free of sexual harassment,
- state what actions to take against sexual harassment, and
- describe Riverside Community College District's policies and procedures on sexual harassment.
Navigating Through the Course
Once the program is opened, you can create your own path through the instruction screens using the Navigation Tools on your monitor, as shown on the screen illustration below.
Basic Navigation Steps
To print screens (pages)
To print a page (or screen), click on the browser's print icon at the top of your screen.
To change screen font size
To reduce or enlarge the font size on your screen, click Text Size in the "View" menu in the top line of the browser window.
To move between major topics in the program
To move to a specific topic in Preventing Sexual Harassment, click on the Drop Down Menu in the Navigation Bar, and a list of topics will appear in the sequence they occur within the course. Click on any item to jump directly to that topic.
Difference between "Previous" arrow and "Back" button
The "Previous" arrow in the program's navigation bar points to the preceding page in the normal instructional sequence of the course. The "Back" button of the browser's toolbar points to the last page displayed on the screen. This enables you to return to where you came from, even if it was not in the standard instructional sequence, by using the "Back" button any time.
To exit or quit Preventing Sexual Harassment
When you click on the "EXIT" button in the Preventing Sexual Harassment Navigation Bar, the program will request confirmation that you want to exit the program. You will have the option of returning to the program, or you can confirm and exit the browser.
Mastery Test
Preventing Sexual Harassment contains a mastery test and prints out a Certificate on
completion of the test (see below). Learners who are on-line when the Certificate is created will have their completion results recorded and Riverside Community College District will receive the results by email. The Certificate can ONLY be printed from the screen at the time it is created, and it is NOT saved. If you want a copy, be sure to print the Certificate when it appears on your screen.
The Instructional Design of Preventing Sexual Harassment
Learners with many different levels of knowledge use Preventing Sexual Harassment. The course is designed to enable each learner to determine the individual level of detail
appropriate to his or her personal needs and interests. To enable this, the primary
instructional path of Preventing Sexual Harassment provides minimum detail, and enrichment options are provided throughout the program by hyperlinks. Each learner can thus choose various links for further information that are personally appropriate, and ignore the others. On some topics, such as "Unwelcomeness," Preventing Sexual Harassment provides many questions and examples to enable learners to thoroughly examine this fundamental concept of sexual harassment. In other cases, Preventing Sexual Harassment offers links to a glossary for definitions of terms that may be unfamiliar, or to texts of formal regulations or legal case precedents. This enables each learner to tailor the course to personal needs and interests.
To ensure that Preventing Sexual Harassment covers all appropriate topics, each learner who follows the natural sequence of the course sees every topic. This way learners are not all forced to follow the same instructional path and same level of detail, and all major topics are covered in the mainline instruction. Excess detail is a common complaint against classroom training, but instructors can't do anything about this with classroom groups. Preventing Sexual Harassment is learner-centered to maximize its relevance and appropriateness for each individual learner.
User Feedback
Preventing Sexual Harassment contains an Evaluation Form (both email and print) that can be accessed at any point in the program from the Drop Down menu. Evaluations are submitted anonymously to both Riverside Community College District and New Media Learning. However if you request a response to a comment or question, please include an email address in the "Comment" section of the on-line form. User feedback always helps to improve any product, and New Media Learning appreciates the comments of learners, whether positive or negative. Thank you.
