Message from President Stephen J. Friedman

June 16, 2009

Dear Members of the Pace Community:

Stephen J. Friedman, President

A fundamental value of Pace University is that faculty, students and staff thrive in a learning and work environment characterized by respect and dignity. Every member of this community has the right to work and learn in an atmosphere free from discrimination and harassment.

Pace University has implemented and enforces policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment in all aspects of the employment or educational experience on the basis of gender, race, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, color, marital or domestic partner status, national origin, citizenship status, Vietnam Era veteran status, and all other characteristics protected by law. The University has no tolerance for any form of discrimination or harassment.

We ask every member of the University community to join together to maintain a work and learning environment that is free from sexual harassment, and to assure an atmosphere free of intimidation for students or colleagues. Our Human Resources Organizational Learning and Development Department, together with our Affirmative Action Officer, has developed a variety of programs designed to inform and educate each of us on these issues. As part of this effort, the University offers Preventing Sexual Harassment, a website training program that serves as an innovative and contemporary vehicle to give faculty, staff and students a basic understanding of what constitutes sexual harassment and how to identify and prevent sexual harassment in our community.

I believe that we all need to understand what is and what is not acceptable in today's workplace. Preventing Sexual Harassment provides an opportunity for you to evaluate your own understanding of issues of sexual harassment, gives you answers to common questions surrounding the issue, and offers suggestions for handling problem situations.

Because we feel so strongly about this issue, participation in the program is required for all Pace University employees. It is part of each new employee's orientation experience. Anyone not considered a new employee who has yet to participate in this program should contact the Organizational Learning and Development in Human Resources at 914-923-2746 to make arrangements to do so. For veteran long service employees, a refresher course is advisable.

Please join me as we strive to make the Pace work environment the most supportive and productive it can be.

Sincerely yours,

Stephen J. Friedman, President
