Message from Harassment Policy Implementation Committee

Dear Lehigh Community Members,

We are writing as members of the Harassment Policy Implementation Committee, which is a committee comprised of the Harassment Policy Officer as well as representatives from the offices of the President, Provost, Vice President and Associate Provost for Research and Graduate Studies, Finance and Administration, Human Resources, Student Affairs, Communications and Public Affairs, and General Counsel. The Committee is responsible for reviewing Lehigh’s Harassment Policy and for ensuring that Lehigh is effectively disseminating information about the policy and providing appropriate education and information for the Lehigh community. The Committee reviewed and approved an online education program developed by New Media Learning which is currently in use on 359 campuses nationwide. The Harassment Policy Implementation Committee believes that this online component will be a valuable resource for the Lehigh community and encourages you to participate.

As you begin the online education program, please note that while Lehigh’s Policy on Harassment addresses all forms of harassment (that is, harassment on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, sexual orientation and veteran status), this educational program is geared primarily toward Sexual Harassment. In the future, we are hoping to expand this educational tool to include information on all forms of harassment, but at the present time this is the form of online education that is currently available in the marketplace. However, you will see that many of the principles related to Sexual Harassment are also applicable to the other protected categories noted above, so you will be able to draw many parallels.

We have listed the Committee members below and encourage you to contact any of us if you have questions about this educational program or suggestions for additional programs at Lehigh.

Thank you for taking the time to become more educated about harassment.

Sincerely,

Committee Members:
Joanne Anderson, Director, Office of the President
Sharon Basso, Associate Vice Provost, Student Affairs and Dean of Students
Heather Hosfeld, Associate General Counsel
Kathleen Hutnik, Director, Graduate Student Life

Jackie Matthews, Associate Vice President for Human Resources
