A message from President Jared L. Cohon
Carnegie Mellon is committed to maintaining a work and study environment free of sexual harassment. Consistent with this commitment, Human Resources has made arrangements for every member of the campus community to participate in an interactive computer-based training program called Preventing Sexual Harassment. Participation in this training will increase the ability of members of the Carnegie Mellon community to identify unsolicited and unwelcome sexual overtures, and will provide guidance about what to do if confronted with such behavior.
As a university community, our goal must be to foster an environment that recognizes the worth and potential of every individual and communicates respect among all members. I am personally committed to this goal and I endorse this training program as an effective way to promote it.
Should you have any questions or wish to send comments about this awareness program, please contact Amy Barry, Director of Human Resources Services, at 412-268-5081 or abarry@andrew.cmu.edu Questions about Carnegie Mellon's policy against sexual harassment should be directed to one of the following sexual harassment policy coordinators: Barbara Smith, Associate Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer, at 268-5070, Mark Kamlet, provost, at 268-6684, or Michael Murphy, Associate Vice President, Student Affairs, at 268-9019. Carnegie Mellon's policy against sexual harassment is available at: http://www.cmu.edu/policies/documents/SexHarass.html
I urge all faculty, staff and students, particularly those with leadership and supervisory roles, to participate in this program.
Sincerely,

Jared L. Cohon
President
