Message from Dr. Daniel J. Bradley, President
Dear Colleagues:
Indiana State University is committed to providing quality education within an environment that is respectful of its students, staff, and faculty. As a center of learning, we work to enhance civility in the free exchange of ideas and respect for each individual. To this end, we continue to work to eliminate the vestiges of prohibited discrimination and sexual harassment. This is an obligation of our institution, and a necessity for a civil place for learning and working.
To carry it out effectively, we must have a shared understanding of what this commitment means. We must all of us - students and employees - know what constitutes prohibited discrimination. The courts of our land provide us guidance in distinguishing between acceptable and unacceptable behaviors. When we are able to differentiate behaviors, we can then work toward developing attitudes and practices that demonstrate mutual respect and address unacceptable behaviors, whether intentional or not.
To help achieve this, we have provided training to all supervisors, chairs, directors, managers and administrators in Preventing Sexual Harassment (http://training.newmedialearning.com/psh/indstate). This training has been updated to reflect the developing law, and previously trained employees can now take the Refresher Training at the same website.
To continue this effort to understand our personal responsibility for helping create a civil workplace and a harassment- free learning environment, we are now making available Preventing Employment Discrimination at http://training.newmedialearning.com/ped/indstate. This includes the ISU policy for accommodation of disabilities under the American with Disabilities Act. Such understanding will enhance the quality of our campus life and help create an atmosphere that values the dignity of each individual. An environment of mutual respect is one of the benchmarks of a quality institution.
Thank you.
Dr. Daniel J. Bradley
